We kicked off the year with the need to repair the quad bike. We supported the costs of parts and repairs for this essential vehicle, crucial for patrols.
With the vehicle ready for action, we resumed fuel support starting this month.
Even during the low season, this camp continues patrol activities due to the high nesting activity on its beaches. We continued supporting the staff with salaries and fuel.
Support for salaries and fuel remains in place.
From January to May 2023, we provided payroll support for a staff member working full-time at the camp. However, they decided to step down, making way for a new employee who started in May. This new worker is under contract until December 2023.
Additionally, in May, we made a significant donation of materials for the reconstruction of the incubation corral.
Support continues in preparation for the peak nesting season. Necessary preparations were made to operate with 100% of resources.
In 2022, 1000 Caguamas and Fundación por las Caguamas reaffirmed their commitment to Campamento Platanitos. Just like previous years, we took care of staff salaries and social benefits.

During the next few months, operating costs increase as temporary staff is needed. This month, Hurricane Roslyn caused some damage to the camp. However, the camp team managed to make timely repairs to minimize the loss of nests.
Support for temporary staff and fuel for high-season patrols continues.
We closed the year with solid results, a full team, and high spirits. Despite the quad bike running out of battery, the staff tirelessly continued patrolling.

Another year supporting Campamento Platanitos and their incredible work in sea turtle conservation across the 8 kilometers of beach they patrol daily.
Thanks to the caguamas you enjoy at 1000 Caguamas, this year we were able to donate $34,507. This amount was used to purchase construction materials for the incubation corral, as well as maintenance and repairs for the quad bike used for patrols. Additionally, we contributed $60,000 to cover the annual salary of the camp technician, who patrols the beach nightly to safeguard turtle nests.
Caguama crew! We're thrilled to share that, for the third year in a row, we decided to continue supporting Campamento Platanitos.
This time, we once again contributed to the salary of the sea turtle technician, which amounts to $60,000. In addition, we were able to donate $60,009 for the purchase of shade mesh, which is used in the incubation corrals to reduce heat in the nests, allowing better control and increasing hatching rates.
We're also proud to share that we supported the camp with the donation of an Xtrem Rocky 200CC quad bike, which will be incredibly helpful for efficiently patrolling the 8 km of beach the camp monitors. This effort is crucial, as it increases the chances of protecting nests by up to 50%.
Another year of collaborating with Campamento Platanitos!
This year, we took a big step toward professionalizing the work of those who protect sea turtles through an agreement with CONANP.
As part of this agreement, we committed to financially supporting Chano, a fantastic member of the local fishing cooperative. Thanks to the caguama crew, Chano can now do his work not only out of love for turtles but also while receiving a salary to support his family.
It's a huge honor to be the bridge between the crew enjoying their caguamas for a cause and those working for the cause.
We're pleased to share with the entire caguama crew that we began an exciting new adventure with Campamento Platanitos in Nayarit, a partnership made possible through the Selva Negra Foundation, founded by the band Maná.
We took our first steps by helping with materials to repair patrol vehicles and purchasing coolers to safeguard the collected nests at this incredible camp.
It's worth highlighting that we had the honor of meeting Dr. Miguel Ángel Flores Peregrina, director of the sea turtle conservation program under CONANP in Nayarit.
We hope to collaborate on many more projects and years together!
